PILR Assists with U.S. Department of Justice Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program

Originally released as a press release on 03/25/2008. Some information may be out of date.

Duenweg, Missouri – For the second year in a row, PILR Technology Services, one of the area’s leading technology service companies, is announcing that it will offer assistance free of charge to area law enforcement agencies in submitting applications for the United States Department of Justice’s Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program (BVP).

The Office of Justice Program’s (OJP) Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) administers the BVP Program. Each year, the program offers a 50% reimbursement to qualified law enforcement agencies for bulletproof vests. According to DOJ guidelines, applicable groups include: police officers, sheriff deputies, correctional officers, parole and probation agents, prosecutors, and judicial officials. It is up to each department to make sure all applications are submitted correctly with the proper signatures and information within the established deadlines. The funds for this year’s program may be used towards the purchase of vests ordered on or after April 1, 2008.

It is important for each law enforcement agency to update or submit a new profile before filing an application for Fiscal Year 2008 funds. Applications must be submitted via the online BVP system, by 5:00 pm (Eastern Time), Wednesday, April 23, 2008. Each vest purchased with these funds must meet National Institute of Justice (NIJ) standards. PILR recommends that profiles should be started no later than April 16th, 2008 in order to meet the April 23, 2008 application deadline.

According to US Department of Justice’s BVP website, since 1999 over 11,900 jurisdictions have participated in the BVP Program, with $173 million in federal funds committed to support the purchase of an estimated 450,000 vests. In 2007, area law enforcement agencies have received matching funds as follows:

For more information about this program call 417-206-7457 or 866-457-7457, or go directly to the BVP programs’ homepage www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bvpbasi/. Assistance from PILR will be available Thursdays and Fridays from 8am – 4pm and other times by appointment until April 23rd, 2008. Appointments are recommended.
